Ferntree Gully Fencing Specialists
Ferntree Gully sits at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, stretching from Burwood Highway toward the increasingly sloping blocks closer to the hills. Many homes here are on sloping blocks with plenty of established trees, where fence installations require careful planning around the land as well as the house. Whether you’re replacing an old boundary, upgrading the frontage or fencing a block that climbs toward the hills, we can help.
As a Melbourne metal fencing team servicing Ferntree Gully, the wider City of Knox and Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, we design, fabricate and install stepped and raked fences, Colorbond boundaries, steel and aluminium front fences, and retaining walls.
Here’s why we’re the Ferntree Gully fencing installers locals choose:
- Quality Workmanship: Every fence is set out to follow the fall of the land, with posts and footings built to stay solid on sloping ground.
- Friendly Service: You’ll get down-to-earth advice from a team that’s easy to reach and quick to get back to you.
- Custom Solutions: Stepped panels, raked fences and custom gates are fabricated to suit your block, however the ground falls.

Our Ferntree Gully Fencing and Gates Services
Aluminium Fences
Aluminium batten, slat and tubular fencing gives a front yard a clean, modern finish while maintaining sightlines to and from the house. It won’t rust or rot, needs very little upkeep and can be stepped or raked to follow a slope.
Colorbond Fences
Colorbond is a popular choice for side and rear boundaries, giving full privacy and a durable finish with no painting required. On sloping blocks, we step each panel so the fence line stays neat and the gaps underneath are kept to a minimum.
Steel Fencing
Steel fencing is built for strength and longevity, making it a reliable choice for front boundaries and secure perimeters. We handle steel fence installation with powder-coated finishes that resist wear and hold their colour for years.
Timber Fencing
Decorative timber front fences suit the natural, leafy character of the area and add warmth to the frontage. We build feature timber fences and gates that complement the home and sit comfortably in a bush setting.
Pool Fencing
We build compliant pool fences that help keep young children safe while complementing the rest of your backyard. Our metal pool fencing and self-latching gates are designed to meet Australian Standards, with styles and finishes to match your other fencing.
Commercial Fencing
We install commercial security fencing for a range of local businesses, securing sites without getting in the way of customers, staff or deliveries. Every fence and gate is designed around your access, security needs and budget.
Gate Installation
Gates on a slope need to be hung carefully so they swing clear of the ground and close securely. We install pedestrian, side and driveway gates in steel and aluminium, as well as Colorbond gates that match your boundary fence.
Custom Made Fencing Panels & Gates
Sloping blocks, curved driveways and irregular boundaries rarely suit off-the-shelf panels. We measure onsite and fabricate custom fence panels and gates to fit the ground and the opening exactly.
Retaining Walls
On many foothill blocks, a retaining wall is what makes a level yard or a straight fence line possible. We design and build retaining wall solutions on their own or beneath a new fence line, holding the soil in place so the fence stays stable over time.

A rushed install or the wrong material can mean paying for the same fence twice.
On sloping ground, shortcuts show up fast. Posts that aren’t set deep enough for the fall of the land, panels that aren’t stepped correctly and retaining that gets skipped altogether can leave you with a leaning fence, gaps along the bottom and soil washing through after heavy rain. Fixing it usually means pulling sections out and starting again.
Why Choose Us?
Experienced Fencing Contractors Ferntree Gully
Fencing a sloping block can feel like more trouble than it’s worth, especially if you’ve had quotes that don’t account for the ground or a previous fence that didn’t last. You want someone who understands slopes, drainage and established trees, and who’ll give you a straight answer on cost. We make it simple, with affordable fencing, clear advice and a plan that suits your block.
As fence builders with more than 20 years in the trade, we’ve worked on plenty of sloping and uneven blocks. Because we fabricate much of our work ourselves, stepped panels, raked sections and custom gates are made to suit your site rather than adapted on the day. We’re a small team, so we stay involved from the first measure to the finished fence, so you’re always dealing with the people responsible for the result.
Here’s why locals trust our fencing company:
Quality Workmanship
Posts are set to suit the fall of the land, and every panel and gate is checked before we leave. The finished fence sits neatly on the slope and stays that way.
Friendly Service
We explain your options in plain language and keep you updated from quote to completion. If something changes on site, you’ll hear from us straight away.
Custom Solutions
No two sloping blocks are the same, so we design each fence around your ground, trees and access. If a standard product won’t work, we’ll fabricate one that does.

4 Steps to a New Fence in Ferntree Gully
1. Free Quote
Call us or book a free quote online, and we’ll come onsite to measure and look at the slope, access and any trees. We then provide a clear, upfront quote along with the approach we recommend.
2. Site Preparation
We confirm the fence line and gate positions with you, then remove the old fence and take it away, recycling materials wherever possible. Where the ground needs levelling or stabilising, we build retaining walls as part of the site preparation.
3. Fence Installation
Posts are concreted in to follow the fall of the land, then panels are stepped or raked and checked for height and line as they go up. Gates are hung last and adjusted so they swing clear of the ground and close securely.
4. Enjoy Your Fence
Your new fence transforms the exterior of your home, improving privacy, security and access around the property. It’s a lasting upgrade that makes the whole block feel more finished and usable.

Ferntree Gully Fencing FAQs
Can you install fences on a sloping block?
Yes. On sloping ground we either step the fence, keeping each panel level and dropping the height at each post, or rake it so it follows the slope in one continuous line. Stepped fences suit Colorbond and most solid designs, while raked fences work well with aluminium slats and steel. Where the fall is steeper, we can build retaining walls along the fence line to hold the soil in place and give the fence a stable base.
Call us on (03) 9034 6066 and we’ll recommend the best approach for your block.
Is metal fencing a good choice for a bushy area?
Yes. Metal fencing won’t rot, warp or attract termites, which makes it well suited to leafy blocks with damp gardens and plenty of leaf litter. Parts of Ferntree Gully are also covered by a Bushfire Management Overlay, so if your property is one of them, it’s worth checking with Knox City Council about any requirements before choosing materials.
Call us to talk through metal fencing options for your block.
Do you install timber paling fences?
No. As metal fencing specialists, we don’t install standard paling fences or timber boundary fencing. We do build decorative timber front fences and feature gates, and for residential fencing along side and rear boundaries we recommend Colorbond, aluminium or steel-framed designs that last longer with less maintenance.
